The week the world was sent home sick

Stay at home

This week the UK and most of the world is in Lockdown, LOCKDOWN! What does that mean? Fucking lockdown! It means you have to stay at home and you can’t leave your house, flat, apartment, bungalow caravan or tent. No easy task! Tents are notoriously small! I don’t recommend self-isolating in a tent. But there are lots of homeless on the streets who just can't "self-Isolate" I've yet to see anything about this on the news or media, I'm hoping that these people are being classed as vulnerable and looked after and they are being housed.

I have a few friends who suffer from anxiety and fear of confined spaces so it’s definitely not a good time. With such uncertainty 2020 is fast becoming my least favourite year.

Liston, I’m someone who likes to think of themselves of a bit of a mild antichrist, As N.W.A once said “FUCK THE POLICE”, we talk about government conspiracy for the purpose of control on the show all the time but at the moment it seems the only course of action compliance with the rules.

But it’s looking like a lot of people are just not taking this seriously “people on the streets da ba dee da day” People on the beach for fuck sake! What are you doing! I’ve been on lock down for almost two weeks already DAY13 after I self-isolated due to flu like symptoms. And this was before the lockdown, since then I’ve been working from home and only going out when absolutely necessary.

We’ve already been told that you “could” have Corona or COVID-19 and not show any symptoms! Selfish Twats!

The government advice states that you can go outside for a quick walk or cycle, to shop for food and medical supplies but if everyone decides for example, “It’s a nice day I know I will have a walk in the park” That’s a lot of people in one park potentially around the same time, just like the scenes we all witnessed on UK beaches last weekend.

Stay at home! Protect our NHS and yourselves

So how do we stay sane not go stir crazy, or go bonkers?

Take this time to better yourself! Learn a new skill, start a new hobby. Personally I spend a great deal of time by myself anyway and the best advice is don’t just sit around playing the Xbox or watching Netflix because take it from me this gets old fast! You’re best off diversifying and come up with some tasks and goals that A) keep you active and B) Keep you occupied.

[Rimmer has put the guys in a small room for three months quarantine]

Kryten : What about entertainment? You are obliged to provide us with minimum leisure facilities. Games, literature, hobby activities, motion pictures.

Rimmer : [With great smugness] And in accordance with Space Corps directive 312, you'll find in the storage cupboard over there a chess set with thirty-one missing pieces, a knitting magazine with a pull-out special on crocheted hats, a puzzle magazine with all the crosswords completed and a video of the excellent cinematic treat, "Wall-papering, Painting, and Stippling - a DIY guide".

Well let’s hope you’re all slightly better equipped than Lister, Cat, and Kryten but here’s a list of some ideas that might keep you sane

  • · Do it yourself (DIY)

  • · Get Reading those books you bought but never started

  • · Download Duolingo, or a similar app, and teach yourself a foreign language.

  • · Take some online courses

  • · Cook up a storm in the kitchen

  • · Start a journal or blog

  • · Face masks, moisturizer, oh my! Treat yourself to a 10-step skin care routine you don’t have time for during a normal work week.

  • · Practice an instrument

  • · Complete a puzzle:

  • · Movie marathon

  • · Indoor work-outs

  • · Virtual tours

Staying at home for a prolonged period of time may prove difficult, but that’s even more of a reason to rise to the challenge – There are plenty of things to do to remain productive, just remember to wash your hands at regular intervals and use anti-bacterial wipes for things that you touch or use often. Taking hygiene seriously is a key factor and it’s also important to take care of yourselves and stay safe everyone!
